What We Fish For And When

It's important that you know what we're fishing for, and how we're doing it, as that might influence when you fish with me. Here is a basic guide of what goes on at different points during the season.

Mid-April to Mid-May: Trolling for trophy Chesapeake Bay striped bass! The legal limit on Maryland rockfish during this time of year for 2016 is one per person. The fish has to be at least 35 inches long in order to keep. If you want to catch the BIG one, this is the best time to do it.

Mid-May through October: Early on, we'll probably still be trolling, although most of the stripers will be between 18 and 28" long. You can keep two stripers per person in this size range. For 2016, these fish have to be at least 20 inches long in order to keep. One of them can be over 28 inches. Once we get into June, I'll probably be live-lining for rockfish, and maybe some bluefish later on. There may also be some bottom fishing for white perch, croakers, and spot. If you prefer light-tackle fishing and live bait, this is the best time for you.

November to Mid-December: We'll be back to trolling, fishing mostly for striped bass. Later in November, the BIG ones should be back in! The limit is the same as during the summer months, as there should still be some of the smaller stripers around!
